How do you get rid of your cold sores?

Mine are in the corner of my lips on both sides and they arent going away! It pisses me off! It’s been there for a month.

I am starting to think that it’s my new medication. I take Lysine and all sorts of vitamins to treat cold sores and nothin seems to work.

So what do you think I should try?

use chapstick i think

Well I never had a cold sore, but I thought I had one once (damn jalepeno peppers) so needless to say as a scientist I researched the topic like crazy. To help them apply pepto-bismol to them, it coats them and soothes them. This is the cheapest quickest fix. IF you catch them early on Abreva is probably the #1 OTC med for them, the tiny tube costs 15$, but man from what I hear it is way worth it- follow the directions on the box and the sore may never fully come. Also I learned the the med for genital herpies Valtrex can stop a cold sore before it even begins to show, you take a few pills as it is prescribed to a person with GH and it stops the oral herpes (aka cold sore) from developing- only bad part is you got to have a friend that is on the med and beg for a few pills, your doc may write a short script for them if you ask, so it is worth a shot.
Also to prevent future break outs, take a kids chewable multi vitamin (seriously they are good for adults and easy and fun to take) and make sure you get enough sleep.
Good luck.

zoverax or denavair …. they make the cold sore go away so much faster…. you need a prescription, but so what. next time your in for a check-up tell him you want some if you get a big tube it will last forever. dont waste your money on Abreva its not nearly a good a s a prescription.

Ninety-nine percent of cold sores(fever blisters) are caused by the herpes virus. As you problably know medical science has not found a cure for herpes, so you have to ask yourself some questions. 1) What is this new medication, and why are you taking it? 2) are you taking good care of yourself,i.e., are you eating properly, getting plenty of rest, do you have even the slightest cold?… Anything that can possibly affect your immune system, in a negative way , can bring on a fever blister. L-Lysine can help speed your recovery, if you take a large enough dose. If you are more than twelve (12) years old I would increase my doseage (slowly) to between 500 to 1000 mg., if less than twelve, don’t take L-Lysine at all. At any rate , if I had a cold sore/fever blister, for a month I would see a doctor, and as about ACYCLOVIR, or maybe another newer antiviral. Under no circumstances should you ask for an antibiotic, (they will do absolutely nothing for a viral infection).Unless medical science comes up with a good antiviral, you can count on having a fever blister every so often for the rest of your life. I’m 58 years old and never had a fever blister until I was about 45, but now I get one three to four times a year. I don’t drink alcohol much any more, but if I do drink too much, I get a fever blister within 24 to 48 hrs. remember the best thing you can do for yourself is to do everything you can to stay healthy. I know that I have told you some things that you didn’t want to hear, but that’s life! I would recomend you talk about this with a doctor.

Safest and by far the best medicine available for cold sores: Abreva from your local Wal-Mart (most economical price found there … about $13 a tube) and it is over-the-counter.

Best prevention: in addition to a daily Lysine supplement of which you can get from Wal-Mart in the vitamin section is a tube of sunblock chapstick and apply it anytime you go out in the sun … sunshine is the number one catalyst to activate fever blisters. The best medicine is prevention … I used to get fever blisters once or twice a month … now I use Lysine supplements and lip block and haven’t had one in nearly two years now, and I have used prescriptions and about everything known for oral fever blisters … nothing helped much … that is until I learned about using sunblocking chapstick … it is the best prevention tool available and it needs to be SPF 30 or greater.
