How Do I Prevent/Get rid of cold sores?

I always get these really big cold sores or some type of sores that are a little smaller than a dime on my upper lip. It happens almost every time I get chapped lips… I use Abreva when they show up and keep blistex on them. I really am uptight about keeping my lips moisturized. So how do I prevent them and/or how do I get them to go away fast.

Cold sores are a very common illness caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).

Avoid direct contact with the sores. These can appear on every part of the body, including the fingers and genitals.

Wash your hands after touching the lips.

Avoid picking at the sores as this can spread the virus to other parts of the body or result in a bacterial infection of the sores.

The body’s defences can be strengthened by a healthy lifestyle. Eat a varied diet, exercise regularly and get enough sleep.

The factors which trigger outbreaks differ from person to person.

It’s possible that you might have canker sores. It’s nothing serious but you can try putting a teaspoon of salt into some warm water and use it as a mouthwash. If that doesn’t work just see a doctor. Hopefully it’s not you know what….herpe….

Leslie..this is really a (body) immunity issue. Your cold sores appear when your immune system is lowered…by way of the flu..or even a cold. This is when those cold sores appear. So your resolution is…to build up your immunity. Take Vitamin C….eat lots of fruit and vegs. fish and legumes…exercise at least 30 minutes walking a day. no smoking. Keep away from sugary and junk foods…and being a woman take some animal products (e.g. eggs/low fat dairy) to prevent iron deficiency (women are more susceptible to iron deficiency as they lose blood in their monthly period)

Don’t kiss anyone or have oral you know what. You will pass it on to them. My husband gets cold sores when he is under alot of stress, he knows not to kiss me or the kids for weeks until the coast is clear. Out of respect not to pass it on to us. We’ve never caught them.

Cold sores are Herpes Simplex 1 Virus. It stay latent in the ganglia in your nerves, meaning it doesn’t go away. It just stay dormant until it manifests itself. You can treat the symptoms, but not cure it.
